Who makes CalmDogs
CalmDogs is built by Mikel Salinas Cordón, a solo developer, not by a trainer, a vet or a behaviourist — and the app makes no claim to any professional credential. That is deliberate: CalmDogs records and explains, and the behaviour work belongs with a qualified professional who has met your dog. The app exists because tracking a reactive dog's week by memory does not work, and because the tool that would fix that did not exist for iPhone.
I am not a trainer, a vet or a behaviourist, and CalmDogs does not claim to be any of those things.
Who I am
My name is Mikel Salinas Cordón. I am a software developer working on my own, from Irún in Spain, and CalmDogs is mine end to end: the app, this website, and the reply you get when you write to support.
Why I built it
Because the information needed to make sense of a reactive dog's week is the kind that only exists if somebody wrote it down at the time, and nobody does, because at the time you are busy holding a lead. What is left afterwards is an impression — that things have been worse lately, or better lately — and an impression is not something you can reason about or take to a professional.
Everything CalmDogs does follows from that one problem. It is a place to put four facts about an event in about thirty seconds, and a way of reading them back once there are enough of them to mean something.
What it does and what it does not
It records what your dog met, roughly how far away it was, what your dog did, and how long recovery took — and relates those across weeks so the pattern is your dog's rather than dogs' in general. That is the whole of what CalmDogs is.
It does not diagnose anything. It does not treat anything. It will not tell you how far to stand from a trigger, it does not replace a qualified professional, and it does not promise that your dog will be a different dog in thirty days. What it promises is better information than memory, which is a real thing to promise and one I can stand behind.
